Gentle waves, rough edges, local rock and wood materials, forms and colours that reflect the landscape: the profound closeness to nature, the leitmotif of Bad Ratzes, is also the theme of our new Spa.

A perfect symbiosis

Clad in larch wood that has been carefully treated with iron sulphate, the distinctive structure merges with the surrounding landscape. The vertical wooden posts, taken from the trunks of the spruce, pine and fir trees that typify the forest around Bad Ratzes, blend seamlessly into the surroundings and create a harmonious connection between architecture and environment, between what humans and nature have created. A tour de force and an all-round success.

Treatments

Design that breathes nature

It is not only the forms of the surroundings that are reflected in our Spa, but also the many colours and textures of the materials. Every design element breathes nature and, as the sum of its individual parts, combines to form a harmonious whole. The interior is dominated by Istrian limestone, known as “Kanfanar”, whose warm brown and beige tones create an inviting atmosphere. The irregular, rough surfaces of the large stone slabs tell of their wild origins, while the image is rounded off by spruce wood slats that, wavelike, gently run along the ceiling.

Indoor & outdoor pool

Fire, earth, water, air – you move between the elements as the indoors becomes outdoors, the outdoors indoors. The heated indoor relaxation pool measures 6 x 12 metres and, with a water temperature of 30°C, invites you to swim all year round. In summer, guests appreciate our new outdoor pool in Seis am Schlern – ideal for swimmers. Grasses and meadow flowers, treetops and the imposing Santner Spire are all reflected in the refreshing waters, as droplets burst and glisten in the sunlight. You have a sensation of weightlessness here, as the elements play in a pool that brings to mind a mountain lake.

(Outdoor) sauna & bio−pool

Just silence, soothing warmth and a hint of eternity. Lightness that is timeless. Energy flows – and guests at Bad Ratzes can restore lost vitality in the Finnish sauna (90°C) and/or the bio-sauna (60°C), located in the indoor area of our new Spa; while the bio-pool with its Finnish outdoor sauna and relaxation bunks (in converted freight containers) can be found in the hotel garden. The pool is filled with spring water and is cleaned naturally using pumps. It is unheated and its temperature depends on the season. Nor do we use any chlorine additives – we protect what we prize.

Steam bath

Stones that seem to float in space, all enveloped in a bright mist: our steam bath is a work of art that draws the eye and should be experienced with every one of the senses. This jewel of our new Spa echoes the power of nature from the stones of the nearby Frötschbach stream. The rocks that hang from delicate steel cables introduce a piece of wild, unspoilt nature into the room and, in a harmony of contrasts, invite thought and contemplation.

Quiet room

Our new quiet room is a place of quiet self-communion, permeated by the soothing scent of lavender infused into its walls. The organic wall covering not only creates a special atmosphere, it also allows Spa guests to experience the power of nature with every breath they take. Let go, breathe in and feel the revitalising energy that is omnipresent in Bad Ratzes. Say nothing, just listen – and simply be.

Garden & inner courtyard

Feel your senses stirring – the inner courtyard and garden of our new Spa create a tranquil atmosphere whose quietness lends it extra power. Selected basalt stones embellish the garden with its many plant species. The volcanic rock carries within it the Earth’s primal energy and blends harmoniously with the typical flora of Bad Ratzes. The organic merges with the inorganic in the magic of creation. So simple – so timeless – so beautiful.
